Calm your body and mind with this easy (+ scientifically-backed!) breathwork practice

I don't know about you, but it's been a WEEK over here.

Between a second national lockdown here in the UK and the US election, let's just say I've never connected with Ross on a more spiritual level than I do right now:

And stress is a weird thing...

Because even when you logically make peace with a situation, ("It's all out of your control, Whit, so let it go,") sometimes it's still hard to calm those stress flutters. It's like they have a mind of their own.

That's why I'm so grateful I discovered breathwork recently.

Breathwork is when you consciously alter the way you breathe. And the good news is, no matter how bonkers the world is, the way you inhale and exhale will always be within your control. And it's a powerful way to relax your body and mind.

I recently started writing for a breath trainer in my copywriting business and I was floored to see how much SCIENCE there is behind breathwork.

It feels like alternative medicine, right? But there's a ton of research on the practice, which lends so much credibility to the field.

The way we breathe impacts almost every system of the body and can reduce a whole boatload of symptoms, such as:

  • Anxiety, tension, panic attacks

  • Headaches, dizziness, tingles

  • Bloating. flatulence, cramps

  • Pounding/racing heart, chest tightness

  • Insomnia, restless sleep, nightmares

  • Asthma, allergies, and hay fever (👈 yes, breathwork can eliminate allergies and hay fever! Who knew??)

Today, I have an easy way for you to dip a toe into breathwork and experience the calming benefits for yourself.

I'm sharing one of my favorite step-by-step breathwork meditations. It's a gentle intro practice that gives you specific things to focus on (helpful if your mind wanders during meditation like mine 🙋‍♀️) to breathe more deeply and smoothly.

By the end of this video, I guarantee your breathing — and as a result, your mindset — will be entirely different than when you started.

If you want to treat yourself to 20 minutes of restful meditation and start your weekend on a calm note, I highly recommend giving this video a go.

I always feel a strong and immediate difference in my mood and my body after I’ve done it. And these days, I’ll take all the positive energy shifts I can get!
